Persian/Dari/Pashto/Kurdish text renders broken (font and RTL shaping)

Category: Bugs Priority: P0 Severity: major Area: localization Reports: 12 Status: Open

Summary

Twelve distinct users report that non-Arabic Arabic-script languages render incorrectly in the app: Persian/Dari/Farsi text shows disconnected or separated letters, garbled or irregular fonts, missing glyphs (notably the Persian letter "ye"), and wrong RTL character/word order, making content unreadable. The same root cause hits Pashto and Kurdish Sorani, whose letters are simply absent from the current Arabic font — an Afghan user explicitly says "due to unavailability of font the text is showing broken" and offers to share a Pashto font, while a Kurdish user suggests switching to a broader font like Noto Naskh Arabic. This is the single most-reported bug in the inbox; it includes a Farsi-language Islamic channel owner (aziz sadeqi) who promoted Qaf and now relays constant complaints from his audience, and Wasim Jalali confirmed on 2026-08-20 that the bug was still not fixed two weeks after his original 2026-08-06 report. Abdellatif has acknowledged the issue to several reporters and promised a fix in coming updates.

Delighted that an AI for Islamic research exists, but reports Persian words are not handled/rendered correctly and hopes the problem gets fixed.

In the Persian language it does not support words correctly, and I hope you fix this problem.

Hosien Badpa hosien.badpa@icloud.com

Reports the Persian translation in the app is entirely or mostly rendered with broken/disconnected letters, which is very annoying. Abdellatif replied that the team knows about the issue and is working on it.

In the Qaf app the Persian translation is completely or mostly broken/disconnected and it is very annoying.

Wasim Jalali jalaliwasim15@gmail.com

Answers requested in Dari/Persian render with separated, disconnected letters that make content unreadable; he attaches a screenshot and suggests the cause is improper font support or ligature handling. He followed up two weeks later: "The bug is still not fixed in the Dari ( Persian ) language rendering."

When requesting an answer in Dari/Persian, the text does not render cleanly. The letters appear separated and disconnected, making the content unreadable. I have attached a screenshot that clearly shows the issue.

Says the app is great but the font is irregular. Also reports a second bug in the same email: the back button does not work when entering the app.

The Qaf app is great but it has an irregular font, and its back button does not work when entering the app.

Abdulhakim Moslih abdulhakimmoslih@gmail.com

Praises the app but reports it has serious problems with Persian: some letters are not displayed properly (screenshot referenced). Also asks for free text selection/copy like ChatGPT. Abdellatif replied that both fixes are planned.

First, it has serious problems with the Persian language — I am including a picture — it does not display some letters properly.

aziz sadeqi aziz.sadeqi@gmail.com (Islamic channel owner)

Owner of a Farsi-language Islamic channel who promoted Qaf; his users constantly complain the font is jumbled/garbled and he asks for an urgent fix.

Salam alaikum, please attend to this urgently. I have an Islamic channel and introduced Qaf; users constantly complain about the garbled font.

Ameer Ahmady ameerahmady12@gmail.com

Reports the app does not properly support the Farsi font and asks the team to review and fix it.

The qaf app does not properly support the Farsi font.

Abdurrazaq Habibi abdurazaqhabibi@gmail.com

Afghan user: Qaf answers in Pashto and Persian but the text displays broken because the app lacks fonts for these languages. Requests a Pashto font (which also covers Persian characters) and offers to share one. Abdellatif accepted the offer.

It answers in these languages but due to unavailability of font the text is showing broken

aziz sadeqi aziz.sadeqi@gmail.com

Earlier report from the same channel owner: praises the app and reports the letter "ye" gets jumbled/garbled in the app font. Abdellatif replied "will fix the font insha'Allah!"

One problem: in the font, the letter "ye" gets jumbled — please fix it.

Omar o46810346@gmail.com

One-line report from an iPhone.

Persian RTL text is rendered with incorrect character/word order.

Abdullah Seddiqi abdullah.abdulkhaliq68@gmail.com

Persian output is not displayed or written correctly: words appear broken, reversed, or misplaced, RTL layout is wrong, and translations are grammatically off, making content unreadable. Screenshot attached, with a checklist of expected fixes (RTL direction, letter joining, grammar, separating Arabic quotations from Persian translations, punctuation/alignment).

Persian text is not displayed or written correctly. Some words appear broken, reversed, misplaced, or grammatically incorrect, which makes the content difficult to read and understand.

Sarchia Khursheed sarchiabanokay@gmail.com

Tried Qaf in Kurdish Sorani; it works, but the Arabic font does not cover some Kurdish letters. Suggests Noto Naskh Arabic. After Abdellatif's reply, offered to give feedback and share the app with the Kurdish community once fixed.

It seems that the Arabic font you’re using doesn’t properly support some Kurdish letters. ... A font like Noto Naskh Arabic, which supports many languages using the Arabic script, could be a good option.
