Voice answers: text-to-speech read-aloud and voice mode
Category: Feature request Priority: P2 Area: Audio / TTS Reports: 5 threads Status: Open
Summary
Five threads ask for audio output: spoken answers, a read-aloud option for hadiths or words users can't pronounce, AI text-to-speech with background playback that keeps running when the screen is locked, and a ChatGPT-style two-way voice conversation mode. One user says he cannot read at all and asks for "someone to read to me," which makes this partly an accessibility need alongside the blind-user screen-reader cluster (sami.mf34 there asks for in-platform answer read-aloud too). One thread bundles adjacent asks: offline caching of previously viewed Q&A and usage-limit visibility in settings. Abdellatif has committed to TTS and background audio playback ("We'll work on implementing text-to-speech and background audio playback insha'Allah") and told the offline requester that offline is more complex.

1a02b661e9618443· Replied: no - The whole message is the email subject (body is only "Sent from iPhone"). He says he cannot read and asks for someone/something to read the content to him — i.e. read-aloud/TTS. The subject opens with "عندي اختراق مهم" (likely a typo/dictation error for "اقتراح" — suggestion). Still unanswered.
عندي اختراق مهم أنا لا استطيع القراءة ممكن تحطون شخص يقرأ لي
I have an important suggestion [sic: written "اختراق"/breakthrough]: I cannot read — could you put someone to read to me? (from the subject line)

1a01d605f7068c99· Replied: yes - Thanks the team for the app and requests answers in audio/voice form. Abdellatif: "نعمل على ذلك" (we're working on it).
جزاكم الله خيرا على هذا البرنامج الرائع، اطلب منكم اضافة الاجابات بالصوت
May Allah reward you for this wonderful app — I request that you add voice answers.

1a01998771c62ddd· Replied: yes - Three-part accessibility suggestion: (1) offline access / local caching of previously viewed questions, answers, and chat history — especially bookmarked or recent queries in low-connectivity situations; (2) AI text-to-speech that reads written answers aloud; (3) background audio playback that continues when the phone screen is locked or off, for listening to long explanations while multitasking. Abdellatif committed to TTS and background playback; offline is "a bit more complex on our end" but will be looked into.
- Text-to-Speech (Voice Read-Out): Integrate an AI text-to-speech feature that reads written answers aloud.
- Background Audio Playback: Ensure that voice playback continues running in the background when the phone screen is locked or turned off.
And on offline mode:
Allow users to access previously viewed questions, answers, and chat history without an active internet connection.

1a010aa8cbae1ab8· Replied: yes - Wants read-aloud so that when a hadith or an unfamiliar word appears in the answer, they can hear its pronunciation. (Same email also asks for per-paragraph copy — tracked in copy-select-text.) Abdellatif promised the audio-reading feature.
بودي لو يكون في قراءه للنص بحيث اذا اشكل علينا حديث او كلمه لا نعرف نطقها
I wish there were read-aloud for the text, so that if a hadith or a word we don't know how to pronounce puzzles us [we could hear it].

19fdcacc9a4a0e9a· Replied: yes - A technical user (built a Shamela-simplifying Claude extension, shared a free dorar hadith MCP: github.com/ibnsaleem29/dorar-hadith-mcp). In the same thread he reported a repeated "DONE" error on follow-up prompts (screenshot attached), asked for a settings option showing usage limits/restrictions, and asked about database update cadence (answer: turath.io source, not updated in 4 months). His voice ask:
If you could also incorporate the voice feature so people could talk/learn like they do on chat gpt's voice model.
Details / repro
- Scope requested, from lightest to heaviest: (a) tap-to-hear pronunciation of a hadith/word, (b) TTS read-out of full answers in-platform, (c) background playback with screen locked/off, (d) full two-way voice conversation mode a la ChatGPT.
- Strong overlap with accessibility: an illiterate user (alr.7mny, iPhone) and blind users (see screen-reader-accessibility, e.g. sami.mf34's in-platform read-aloud request) are blocked without it.
- Arabic TTS quality (correct tashkeel/pronunciation of hadith text) will be the hard part — the pronunciation use case is explicitly about words users can't read correctly.
- Adjacent asks recorded here: offline caching of viewed Q&A (ibmksa6) and usage-limit visibility in settings (omarshah29).
- Open loop:
